CALEB J. NIXON

This website is where I document my artwork and the creative process behind my storytelling. Feel free to look around and hit me up if you want to connect. Watch each other's backs out there.

Portfolio Criticism Artist Statement

The Forlorn Love, The Lonesome Shroud, The Starving Boy, The Better Man, and The Forgotten Memoirs.

My mixed media exhibition draws on feelings of unease and terror. Through them I aim to represent my personal and familiar abstract fears in a physical form.

The five larger pieces are all acrylic paint on a 16 x 20 inch canvas, acting as the cover to a graphic novel. The three individual pages situated under each painting are digital prints that serve as a storyboard.

These pieces were inspired by an idea for a television show that I had, which looks at both adult fears from the mind of a child and mythological monsters from a grounded realistic view.

My overall goals with these pieces of work was to confront and manage my fears by giving them a physical form and making them easy to handle with my bare hands.

While I do wish that I could have explored other aspects of mind and possibly refined the work I have done, I am overall happy with the way this exhibition has been produced.

Gallery

This virtual exhibition is a collection of some of my favorite pieces of work. I will update this section in the future as I continue to make art, but at the moment, I only have one exhibition and several smaller projects to display. The first six images depicted here come from a collection titled Black, White, and Red, which I created as a way to interpret my dreams and nightmares. The next six are all unrelated pieces that I created through various courses at my university. They have provided me with the opportunity to experiment with different forms of work.

ABOUT ME

Hello! My name is Caleb Johnson-Nixon, an aspiring contemporary artist, animator, writer, and show runner. I am interested in realms of storytelling such as Afrofuturism, Horror, Mythology, and Folktale alongside all mediums of artwork. Except AI "art," which as Hayao Miyazaki states, "... is an insult to life itself." This website serves as a way for me to present my work to other people, and possibly connect with others who share my interests. I hope that whoever finds their way here is doing good and enjoys what they've found.
